Sometimes you just need a little escape with your best friends - and we found the perfect spot: Landgoed De Wilmersberg, tucked away in the green countryside near Twente. Located on a 14-hectare private estate between Oldenzaal and De Lutte, this four-star Green Key Gold-certified hotel is one of the most sustainable hotels in the Netherlands.
This historic estate turned boutique hotel is all about sustainability, serenity and personal service. Even though it was fully booked, it still felt spacious and quiet. Everyone apparently came for the same reason: time to relax.
After we settled in our room with an impressive view over the green surroundings, we started our weekend the right way: with a glass of fine Champagne. Then we dove into a beautiful vegetarian menu paired with excellent wines. Every dish was creative and full of flavor, especially the starter dish of peas, green beans and curry oil, and the service made us feel completely at home. We dined, talked and laughed until almost everyone had left the restaurant and then rolled into our beds.
Refreshed & relaxed
The next morning we woke up refreshed (nothing better than not being woken up by kids😉). Nothing better than waking up calmly with coffee and an enormous luxury breakfast buffet. Free tip: don’t skip the salmon sashimi. After breakfast, we had the wellness area all to ourselves: swimming pool, whirlpool, multiple saunas and steam room… could we stay here forever?
We rounded things off with a little walk through the surrounding nature. By the time we left, we felt completely recharged - proof that food, wine, wellness and girlfriends can make you feel brand new.
